TPRI® (Texas Primary Reading Inventory) is considered a gold standard for evidence-based classroom reading assessment. TPRI was created by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Center for Academic and Reading Skills (CARS – UT-Houston) and the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES, University of Houston). TPRI is based on more than 10 years of scientific research and offers an optional Fluency module that enables ongoing progress monitoring.
A scientifically-based reading assessment for students in K-3, TPRI is designed to help teachers identify students not at risk for reading failure, plan instructional interventions to address areas of student weakness, and monitor student progress. Designed to provide a comprehensive view of a child's literacy development, TPRI contains a screening component for identifying students not at risk to fail at learning to read by end of Grade 2, defined as below 30th percentile. The TPRI screening component is based on a longitudinal data base of over 900 K-2 students. Further assessment and instruction can then be focused on the students who do not pass the Screening.
The TPRI assessment also contains an inventory component which covers Phonemic Awareness; Graphophonemic Knowledge and; Reading Accuracy, Fluency, and Comprehension. The Inventory component is used to perform in-depth diagnosis and pinpoint specific needs of students at risk for reading difficulties. The Inventory component has been validated with more than 3000 students.
Wireless Generation offers TPRI as a handheld-to-Web assessment solution. mCLASS®:TPRI® software is the same proven assessment with new tools for simplified administration and deeper diagnosis.
The mCLASS:TPRI solution:
Dramatically saves teachers time. By calculating scores, automating the assessment's adaptive branching logic and streamlining data entry, the system frees teachers for more instructional time.
Promotes assessment accuracy. Because the computer does all calculations and automates adaptive branching logic, the risk of human error is significantly diminished.
Automates data aggregation and reporting. With the push of one button, all assessment results securely move from the handheld device to the Web, where educators can access and print student, class, campus and district-level reports.
Helps teachers identify the right instructional tactics for each child. mCLASS:TPRI software recommends specific instructional activities, based on each child's assessment results.
Offers ongoing progress monitoring. The optional Fluency module lets teachers check progress as frequently as needed.
