DIBELS consists of a series of targeted activities or “probes,” each designed to provide a diagnostic measure of a fundamental early literacy skill.

To begin, the teacher simply taps a name on the student roster, which has been pre-loaded by Wireless Generation. Taking into account the student's grade and the time of year, the system automatically selects the appropriate set of probes.
