Release Qualitative Reading Inventory -3(QRI-3) Now Available on Palm OS Handheld Computers Wireless Generation Releases New mCLASS® Benchmarking Tool Using the Popular QRI-3 Reading Assessment Instrument New York, NY - May 16, 2002 - Wireless Generation, a dynamic new company dedicated to producing state-of-the-art handheld technology products for K - 12 education, is pleased to announce that Qualitative Reading Inventory-3 (QRI-3), the widely-used and highly-praised benchmark observational reading assessment instrument, is available for the first time ever for grades K - 6 teachers in a mobile electronic format. mCLASS®:QRI-3™ works with Palm OS handheld devices, and is designed, as are all Wireless Generation products, to help teachers by giving them critical student performance data and by saving them time. Wireless Generation has licensed the research-based Qualitative Reading Inventory-3 (QRI-3) from Allyn and Bacon/Longman and now delivers it via mCLASS, Wireless Generation's cutting-edge platform for mobile assessment tools. With mCLASS:QRI-3, teachers administer the same exceptional benchmarking assessments as in the paper-based version, including word list, oral reading fluency, retelling propositions, and comprehension assessments. In the electronic version, however, teachers enter their assessment observations quickly and easily on a Palm OS device, and when they're done, the program offers immediate feedback on student performance. The benchmark data is then "synched" with powerful Web-based or district enterprise systems where a wide variety of reports can be generated, including longitudinal reports on individual student, class, school, or district progress. Larry Berger, Wireless Generation CEO, said, "Wireless Generation is honored to be able to offer to educators an electronic version of such a respected and widely-used scientifically-based assessment tool as the QRI-3. We believe this will help put observational reading assessment into even more teachers hands, giving them both the data and the time they need to ensure every child is a successful reader." QRI-3 co-author and Marquette University Professor of Education Lauren Leslie said, "My co-author, JoAnne Caldwell, a Professor of Education at Stritch University, and I are pleased that teachers are responding so enthusiastically to the handheld QRI-3. Wireless Generation is doing important work in designing a system that allows users of the QRI-3 to benefit from rapid scoring and reporting. Given the federal government's agenda for 'scientifically based' assessment procedures, we expect QRI-3 on a handheld computer will become an important new classroom tool." Each classroom subscription of mCLASS:QRI-3 comes with the Qualitative Reading Inventory-3 text, published by Allyn and Bacon/Longman.
