Burst®:Reading - How It Works
Helping teachers connect it all with a complete solution for literacy intervention.
Assessment
Teachers conduct guided benchmark assessments with mCLASS® software. Immediate results identify students’ strengths and needs using a skills-based model. Quick progress monitoring ensures reading intervention matches each student’s progress.
Grouping
Burst:Reading’s grouping tool uses technology to find students with similar needs and group them based on based on available resources for reading intervention.
Synchronized Intervention
Burst:Reading determines the skill, pace and style of lesson that will work best for each group approved by the teacher. The high-quality curriculum is delivered in the form of 10-day, targeted reading intervention aligned with students’ abilities.
Instruction
Teachers follow 10-day cycles to bring 30-minute lessons to life in the classroom with engaging, interactive instructional materials. Reading instruction is provided via a PDF that can be printed or referenced from any computer.
Burst:Reading Technology
The Burst:Reading algorithm uses rules formed from the successes of practitioners, and patterns derived from research that proved highly predictive of later success. The patent-pending technology draws from the output of highly effective teachers, coaches, and literary researchers who addressed each scenario.
Skills-Based Model
Burst:Reading applies a skills-based model that reflects an extension of the National Reading Panel's Five Big Ideas in Reading:
- The earliest skills that students need are identified
- Those skills are taught to mastery
- Subsequent skills are added to that foundation, working toward the goal of reading with comprehension
- Each strand of instruction in Burst:Reading corresponds to one of the hexagons in the model
